Meet a Public Partner

Holly Patterson

Tell us a bit about your background.

I currently work as a Housing Officer and have done for over 15 years. I spent a small amount of time in management, however I enjoy the aspect of dealing face-to-face with tenants and being able to help them. I studied housing at university at a postgraduate level and carried out work experience and apprenticeship placements before securing full-time employment in the housing sector.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Reading and watching TV recommended by family and colleagues.

How did you get involved in the Fuse public partner network?

I was invited to be part of the Fuse Public Partner Network as I have experience of working with tenants from different backgrounds and levels of financial stability across North East England.

What areas of public health research are you particularly interested in?

The link between health and housing, with an emphasis on repairs.

Have you been involved in research before?

I have conducted my own research on a small scale for undergraduate and postgraduate university degrees.

Why is having your voice heard in public health research important to you?

It is and should be for everyone! Having access to appropriate healthcare and being listened to is a matter that concerns us all.

What one piece of advice would you share with someone curious about public involvement and engagement?

Have the confidence to put yourself forward, you will be heard.
