What is the Quarterly Research Meeting about?
Alcohol use peaks in early adulthood and can contribute directly and indirectly to unhealthy weight gain. In certain drinking cultures, many eating rituals are strongly linked to the use of alcohol as well as unhealthy food choices being more likely to occur during and directly after drinking.
Reducing obesity and tackling the harms of excessive alcohol use are the focus of national health and health-care policies. Yet, research on reducing excess body weight or heavy alcohol consumption typically occur in isolation.
What is the aim of this event?
To share the findings from a recent research project exploring the links between unhealthy eating and alcohol use in those aged 18-25, with the intention to co-design an intervention that supports healthier eating behaviour and safer alcohol use in young adults. In addition, this event will bring together policy makers, practice partners and academics for open discussion and workshop activities around the topics of alcohol use, diet and obesity.
Who is the event for?
• Commissioners and practitioners in Local Authority and other organisations who plan, commission, scrutinise or provide local health and wellbeing initiatives with young people and young adults in mind.
• Public health researchers and academics.
• Community and voluntary sector organisations.
• Those with an interest in supporting healthier eating and safer drinking in young adults.
