NIHR ARC NENC - Fully funded PhD Studentships

As part of their new phase of funding (2026-2031) NIHR ARC NENC are offering 17 fully funded PhD studentships across a range of health and social care projects.

• Start date: January 2027
• Duration: 3.5 years full time (including an 8-week placement)
• Locations: Across five of our partner universities in the North East and North Cumbria
• Application deadline: From 19 October 2026

The studentships will be hosted across five of their six partner universities: Durham University, Newcastle University, Northumbria University, University of Sunderland, and Teesside University.

Funding

• 100% of UK home tuition fees paid.
• Annual stipend (living expenses) of £21,805 (2026 – 27 UKRI rate).
• Funding for research costs, training, travel, conferences and exchanges.
