Funded PhD in Public Health

This PhD will combine research and policy knowledge on systems approaches to inform, and potentially influence, local physical activity policies for young people, by working closely with Gateshead Council. Gateshead is one of the most deprived areas in northeast England. The overarching aim of this PhD is to support the council in identifying actions that can be taken in the built environment to promote physical activity in young people and to evaluate their actions, all based on the systems approaches. A secondary aim is to explore policy makers’ and stakeholders’ capacity of systems thinking and understanding of the systems approaches, as well as the foreseen challenges.

This exceptional PhD opportunity is a collaboration between Northumbria University, University of Cambridge and a local government.
