Tackling social isolation
Evaluating the Impact of Gateshead’s Innovation Fund Projects on Social Isolation.
Gateshead Council and Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) wanted to build on the valuable contribution that the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) played in delivering innovative approaches to tackling social isolation. In 2016, the CCG and Council launched a £200,000 innovation fund, and 18 VCS organisations made successful bids for funding projects which addressed social isolation in Gateshead.
AskFuse was approached by the Council and the CCG for help to assess the impact of these social isolation projects, and to record good practice and collate lessons learned from the operation of the fund.
AskFuse supported this enquiry by publicising the request across the Fuse research network and facilitating negotiations between Fuse researchers from Northumbria and Newcastle universities, the Council and the CCG. The impact assessment was based on document analysis and interviews with project participants.
This impact assessment, supported by AskFuse, is ongoing.
