This event is free, thanks to support from The Wellcome Trust, and will bring experts in their field to share their advice, as well as giving PhD students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) the opportunity to present and share their work. The event will be held at the Calman Learning Centre, Durham University on Friday 18 September 2015, 9.30am-4.00pm.
Professor Jonathan Gabe (Royal Holloway University of London), Editor for the journal Sociology of Health and Illness, will speak about publishing qualitative health research, touching on barriers to publishing, dealing with rejections and revisions, and writing up mixed-methods research.
Jennifer Jeffes (Durham University), will share her expertise on engaging with policy makers and parliament, and strategies for writing for such audiences.
In addition, an Early Career Researcher will share their insight and experience.
Abstracts and presentations
The symposium is also an opportunity for PHD and ECRs to showcase their research, either as part of the '3 Minute Thesis' session, or as a poster. Not only will this be an opportunity to test out your ideas, network and get supportive feedback, but there will also be a prize for the best poster and oral presentation. Applications are welcome on any aspect of research. A 250 word abstract submission for either of the sessions should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 21 August at 5pm, clearly stating whether you would like to be considered for a poster or oral '3 Minute Thesis' presentation.
