Improving the health and wellbeing of disabled people in times of crisis

Members of the Fuse Health Inequalities research programme from Durham University are working with two disability charities to create physical activity resources to improve disabled people’s health and wellbeing.

In collaboration, Disabled Rights UK, Sense, a charity for people with complex disabilities, and the University are leading research that will identify what physical activity resources disabled people desire during times of crisis, like Covid-19.

It aims to use an inclusive methodology by, for example, working with members from Disabled People's User-Led Organisations to gain insights from disabled people who cannot access an online survey. The results will be used to create and disseminate physical activity resources to meet disabled people’s physical activity needs during times of crisis.

This work was identified as a priority research need by Disability Rights UK. It is funded by an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) award and Sport England.
